Karen Kay Horton, 68, of Henderson, NV passed away March 26, 2015. Karen was born in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Stanton and Mary Mercer. She served her country with distinction for 34 years as a federal employee for many government contractors, whose primary responsibilities were the operation of the Nevada Test Site. She finished her career with Bechtel Nevada and was the Chief of Staff and the executive assistant to several of Bechtel Nevada’s presidents. Once she retired, she was always on the go! She enjoyed reading, sewing, scrapbooking, playing Yahtzee, hosting bible studies in her home, and she could throw one heck of a party! She took great pride in her home, always making sure it was warm and inviting and always impeccably decorated-especially for the holidays. She loved her Lord and Savior with all her heart and lived for Him each and every day. She loved her church, her precious family, and her many wonderful friends. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She touched so many lives through her example to live each day as a Godly woman. Anyone that called her friend was blessed beyond measure for having been loved and cared for by her. Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Stanton and Mary Mercer. Karen leaves behind her husband of 46 years, Dale, her sister Cathy Whestine of Blackwell, OK; daughter Cherie (Charles) Nelson of South Carolina; two grandsons, Paul Bryce and Joshua Daniel; one granddaughter, Taylor Kylee and numerous nieces, nephews, treasured friends and, of course, her beloved cats Sophie and Pumpkin. A celebration of her life will be held at Calvary Chapel Green Valley, 2615 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, on May 18, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Palm Mortuary are handling the arrangements. Because of her great love for animals, in lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial donations be made to a humane society in your area on her behalf. Condolences may be left in Karen’s online guest book. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
