

Richard A. Murphy, age 93, of Boulder City, Nevada passed away peacefully with family by his side on Friday, April 22, 2022. He fulfilled his desire to live in his home till the day of his death. He was born January 8, 1929 in Des Moines Iowa to Frank Maryland Murphy and Eva (Senter) Murphy. He attended school in Des Moines, Iowa and joined the U.S. Navy upon his graduation from East High School in 1947. Richard served in the Korean War and was also present for the atomic bomb testing in the Enewetak Islands.
After his discharge from the U.S. Navy, Richard met and married Nancy Louise Ford on December 24, 1952. They were married 60 years before her passing in 2012, and were blessed with five children.
Because of the training he received in the U.S. Navy , Richard worked as an electrician for Iowa Power and Light. He then obtained a job with the Bureau of Reclamation while living in Sioux City and Le Mars, Iowa, until they moved to Boulder City, Nevada in 1969. Richard worked at Mead Substation and later at Hoover Dam where he retired. After retirement, Richard worked for the City of Boulder City in the electrical department.
Richard loved to travel with his wife. He also loved fishing; but his greatest love was singing. He was in many, many choir groups including the Barbershop Singers and the Las Vegas Gambleairs. His wife Nancy was his accompanist as he sang in many different places.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Ford Murphy; sister, Opal Lewis; and grandson, Matthew Asturi. He is survived by his five children: David (Helen) Murphy, Janet Denning, Carolyn Murphy, Kolene (Glenn) Pike and Gary (Shirley) Murphy; 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Richard lived a full life here on earth, and now he is singing in heaven.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Funeral Services will begin at 3:00 pm; both at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 916 5th Street in Boulder City. A Celebration of life will follow at the China Bistro: His favorite place to eat, located at 1420 Boulder City Parkway, Boulder City Nevada from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Richard will be laid to rest with military honors on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at 10:40 AM at the Southern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery
