

Selma earned a degree from Hill Business College in Oklahoma City in 1945. She moved to Southern Nevada in February 1954 with her husband, Troy. Selma worked at the Henderson Branch of the Bank of Nevada and was one of the first female bank officers in the state. Bank of Nevada later merged with First Interstate Bank and continued her service there for over 50 years. She retired at the age of 93.
Selma made significant contributions to the growth of Southern Nevada. She helped found Nevada State College and set up many scholarships both there and at UNLV, along with her husband, Troy. They also helped found St Rose Dominican Hospitals as well as founding Henderson's first senior center and the Smith Center. Selma was instrumental in promoting community, real estate, educational development, and the growth of medical and professional facilities. Her personal and financial support in higher education as well as the medical professions have garnered her many prestigious accolades and awards. As a result of her community efforts, the Selma F. Bartlett Elementary School was named after her in 1992. She was also awarded the UNLV President's Medal, Silver State Award and was recognized as a Distinguished Nevadan.
Selma has been reunited with her loving husband, Troy. She is survived by her nephews; Ed Ratliff and Michael Ratliff, great nieces; Avery Fields and Robyn Gill and great nephew: Mitchell Gill.
Selma led a life of philanthropy and has touched so very many lives. She will be greatly missed.
A graveside service for Selma will be held Tuesday, September 23, 2025 1:00 PM at Palm Mortuary - Henderson, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015.
