Valentino Gutierrez, our loving husband, father, abuelo, and papi, passed away on February 11, 2024, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born on February 26, 1948, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Urbano Gutierrez and Mary Cano (Serna) who both preceded him in death.
Tino spent his life caring for and loving his family through his favorite hobbies, cooking and baking! Though he was up daily before sunrise to go to work, he started each day in prayer and sending encouraging text messages to family members and many of his friends. There are many things for which he will be remembered. He had an unwavering commitment to Christ and he shared his faith with anyone who stood still long enough to listen. He was a hardworking man who finally retired (against his will) when he was 71 years old. One of the things for which he will most be remembered is his love of laughter. He actually wanted Fluffy the comedian to do his funeral, but we couldn’t pull that one off. Even in life’s most challenging and difficult times he found something to laugh and joke about. He loved western wear, playing his guitar and singing, hunting, fishing, and the arts. His favorite outings were live theatres and museums and he spent countless hours watching Bob Ross paint.
When people in his life faced difficult challenges, he was the first person they thought to call. He prayed with many when they were at their lowest moments in life and was a father figure to a lot of people.
His grandchildren describe him as quiet, patient, authoritative (scary), funny, stylish, welcoming, loving, he treated women with respect, he was always laughing at something, and he was a really, really good cook.
Tino was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Patricia Gutierrez. He is survived by the love of his life of 56 years, Mary Elva Gomez; his three daughters Tina (Carl) Vanderpool, and Rebecca Williams; four grandchildren Carl III (Mary) Vanderpool, Cameron (Karina) Alavanders, Genesis Williams and Valentino Williams; his great-granddaughter Aria Vanderpool; and his siblings Josie (Albert) Apodaca, Joe (Erica) Cano, and Rick Cano.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 22, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services with military honors will follow beginning at 2:00 PM both at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. He will be laid to rest at 8:00 AM on Friday, February 23, 2024 at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV.
