Dear Sakira,

It’s been difficult for me to write to you simply because I could only wish that you were still here, so that I could share my life stories with you & let you know that you are not alone & that you have my support, because I can empathize with deep sorrows. I’m thankful that you & Aliyah grew up together & have such beautiful memories. The two of you would have definitely passed as sisters. I’ll never forget how when you were little, I would squeeze your adorable, chubby cheeks. The thought that you are in heaven with your grandmother, Ita, brings comfort in knowing that you are no longer in the soundless pain. May you Rest In Peace, beautiful one.

With the stories Aliyah's told me of you two growing up, you sounded like a genuine, sweet, and caring person. The few times I met you, you were all that and more. I wish we could've had more time to get to know each other better, but I know one day we'll all be together again.

I remember as we got older, we weren’t as close anymore because life got busy, but I always looked forward to seeing you during the holidays. When we did link up, we would catch up and continue where we left off. 

There are many other memories I remember, and there are ones I won’t be able to remember: 

I won’t remember your college graduation. 

I won’t remember you walking down the aisle. 

I won’t remember you telling me you’re pregnant or you having children. 

I won’t remember us raising our families together. 

And I won’t remember the rest of the life you would have lived.

I want to leave you all with a quick story. This past Friday night, I’m alone at home, blasting music and “With Everything” from Hillsong United came on. Tears running down my face as I’m singing the words “with everything, we will shout for your glory”, and in the moment I thought of Kira. 
In all this tragedy, in all the memories I shared or wasn’t able to share with her, I can praise God because she is now at peace and sitting beside his thrown. There’s comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and that death did not win. I’ll miss her, I’ll cry for her, and I’ll always remember her, but I can’t wait to see her again.

I miss you like crazy Kira. I’ll never forget your light and what you meant to me. I’ll cherish every moment we had together. To one day seeing each other again, I love you forever. 

To Sakira:
I remember always looking forward to summer days at Ita’s because I knew you would come too. The way my grandmother showed us her love was through food, and you appreciated that greatly! You loved the pancakes especially because of how much syrup you doused them in. 

I remember the sleepovers we used to have at your house, and always getting in trouble with your mom because we weren’t asleep yet. When we were younger, your mom would always dress us as twins because technically we could pass as sisters. 

I remember us taking bubble baths together, and unfortunately, there is picture proof of this.

I remember our dads scaring us with crabs in their hands, as we ran and cried in Ita’s room. 

I remember building forts with our cousin Annie at our grandma’s house, and how we used to play pretend with our baby dolls and easy bake oven. 

I remember teaching you how to ride a bike at one of the family park days we had. After that, whenever I slept over, we HAD to ride the bikes throughout your neighborhood. 

I remember all the birthday vacations we took, since your birthday always landed on Labor Day weekend. The best one, in my opinion, was the Nickelodeon Hotel, since you had an obsession with Spongebob when we were younger. 

I remember thinking “why do you always copy me”. For example, when I got a DS, you got a DS. When I played the piano, you then joined piano. Being the older cousin, I used to think you were being annoying, but looking back now, maybe you looked to me for somethings, I just don’t know. 

I remember going to one of your soccer games, where you received a trophy. At that time, I was the only girl cousin that didn’t play a sport, so maybe at that point, I was a bit jealous and being the annoying one then. 

I remember not being able to go to your fifteens cruise, and that honestly bummed me out because I wasn’t able to be there on your big day. 

In reading these memories from everyone, I can see what a special girl Sakira was to those who were blessed to have known her. I know you will miss her every day. May your memories of her stay strong and keep you comforted. Praying for God to be close by your side.

I've spent days trying to wrap my head around this terrible news and I still can't do it. First and foremost, I wish to send my deepest condolences to the entire Corchado family. Secondly, I wish to let you know that Sakira was deeply loved and appreciated by everyone who knew her. Sakira was always a source of love and light in all she did. At debate tournaments, she always found ways to turn long days into an opportunity to have fun. I remember being nervous in between rounds and Sakira  being there to remind me to stay positive and to not worry so much. In and out of school, Sakira brought so much joy to our friend group and always knew what to say to make us all laugh. Sakira was not only an amazing friend, but an amazing human being. I miss her deeply. I pray that Sakira is at peace and that God may give her family strength and support now and forever. 

Sakira is a true light. No matter how I was feeling, she always looked at the positive and acknowledged anyone she came into contact with. It’s so sad to see such a sweet soul go, but it is nice to know that she is now at peace. My prayers go out to her and her family. 

Sakira was always such a kind-hearted, joyful soul. No matter how long between when you'd see her, she'd act like no time at all had passed and would pick the conversation up right where it left off. She always, always made it her goal to give people a reason to smile and laugh, and was always so wonderful to spend time with. I pray her soul has finally found the peace she so greatly deserves. Rest easy sweet girl.

I wasn’t blessed with sisters but God gave me Sakira and Aliyah. So many memories that feel so long ago, but memories I’ll never forget. I couldn’t find the perfect picture.The one of us that captured the day of your quince when I was putting on your make up,fixing your hair, squeezing you into your purple dress just to make sure how you looked matched how you always made everyone feel...amazing. So I chose my favorite picture of us. 


Little cherry blossom, I still cannot believe that I will never see you again. I’ve been waking up thinking “what a horrible nightmare” only to realize this is life. I’m so sorry you struggled silently. I wanted you to meet Lili and hoped the day came sooner than later. But I saw a star and thought you; how you shined in even in the darkest of rooms, i bet the sun and moon are jealous of you. Sweet girl, I wish so many thing for you. I wish you knew how much I love you. I wish you knew that your flaws are what made you perfect. I wish you knew that you were bigger than the worlds problems. I wish you knew that you weren’t alone. I wish you knew that how you were feeling was just temporary. I wish you knew my life wouldn’t be the same without you.If I could just talk to you one last time, I’d share with you all my wishes and hope it was for the better. You’ve taught so many people different things in life and in death. Your smile is forever engraved in my heart. May we meet again, little cherry blossom.

Sakira was a bundle of joy to be around. I didn’t know her too well, but whenever we spoke we’d always laugh. She was very passionate about so many things and so driven. She was so smart, beautiful and bubbly. 

Sakira was always someone you could count on to make you smile. She was such a genuine person who always said what was on her mind but that’s what was so great about her. She was such a light in my life and was a true friend when you needed her. I wish we could’ve been there for her in the way she was for everyone else. She will always remain in our hearts and prayers will be made for peace and comfort over her family in this difficult time. God always prevails, may He be there for the corchado family in this time of need. 

My heart feels incredibly heavy today. Sakira was a literal light. When I first went to West Broward I was completely alone and nervous. Switching schools was a hard thing for me and she was one of the first people to welcome me with open arms. She always did her best to make others smile and laugh and it breaks my heart to know she was suffering. I hope she’s found peace and is resting easy. I am blessed to have encountered her beautiful soul. Sending love and prayers to her family. Rest in paradise beautiful. ❤️

Sakira was a beautiful person inside and out. She never failed to make me laugh, and was always there for me in high school. I'll always remember our matching outfits for homecoming week, our conversations every day at our table during lunch time, and your amazing personality that lit up the whole room. I still can't process that you're not here with us anymore. I'm  so thankful I had the opportunity to get to know you. Rest easy my love. 

Sakira was truly the sweetest and most kindhearted friend anyone could ask for. She was free-spirited and would light up any room she would walk into. Sakira was always so outgoing and such a joy to be around. I remember sitting at lunch together in high school and listening to her jokes, she always knew how to make people laugh and smile. It is hard to believe this is real. Sakira and her family will always be in my prayers. Thank you for being such an amazing friend Sakira. I love and miss you so much. 


My heart breaks knowing what Sakira was going through, but knowing she can now be at peace, brings me peace as well. Through middle and high school she never failed to make me laugh. She had the kind of personality that could make you see the good in anyone but also know that not everyone should get to see it. I regret not keeping in touch over the years, but no person or thing will change what’s happening in your mind. Sakira, you were brave, intelligent, and beautiful. I wish you everlasting peace and happiness. Rest easy, friend.

The one thing i loved about Sakira was how she knew everyone in high school yet treated everyone with the same amount of kindness and respect. Many people didn’t have that quality in hs and yet she did. She was always quick with a warm welcome and smile and hug. I think my fondest memory of her was the night of prom. While i  have others, this one sticks out. We ended up going to the bathroom in pairs cuz we’re women lol and she peed in the stall next to me and we just talked about life and what we were gonna do after we graduated and where we were gonna end up. I slipped on my dress as she helped me up and we died laughing for a solid 3 min. It was the kind of laughter that hurts cuz you’re not getting enough air but it feels so good you don’t care. Sakira was beautiful. And I’m glad to have been able to call her my friend. 

Sakira was always so kind to me in middle school & high school. We talked a bit last year & the last time I saw her we ran into each other at Publix. She had mentioned to me that she was in a dark place a few months prior but that she was doing a lot better now & that shes happy. She had such a big heart & love for everyone. I hope that shes at peace 🤍

Sakira Corchado, God where do I begin. We have been friends since we met in elementary school, in ASP.  You were always a kind person, with good intentions. Hard headed yes, but in a good way. You just needed someone to be there for you and support you, and to see your perspective. 
It has been an honor knowing you, and your laugh and your big smile. It has been an honor knowing your heart and your intelligence I’ve always saw since we were younger. I always imagined when I was little that those friends I made then, would be with me so I can see them flourish and succeed. Back then those friends were all I ever saw when we were small. Cause that’s all you care about right ? The friends you have at that age, apart from your parents they’re your world. You Sakira. Were apart of that world, and it hurts me dearly to see you go. We hung tight through middle school, high school and further than that. We grew apart a little bit after, but I always thought in the end we would meet for coffee one day and blow that all over. But God only gives us a certain amount of time, I didn’t know that time was running faster than mine. 
Sakira Corchado. Typing this feels unreal, you don’t know what you have until it’s gone. But everyone right now is turning and looking back on the great memories we had with you, and trust me those memories are abundant. I know with just me they are abundant, so I can’t imagine how much love and memories you’ll receive.  When I was around you, your attitude and energy was infectious. I made sure you were smiling so I could smile too. It was a win win, both of us lighting up wherever we walked.. 
I’ll miss you dearly. I’ll hold your name up high forever. You WILL live on and so will your story. Much love always and forever. Thank you for the times we had together, ASP, middle school, high school, church, the time you and your mom took me along to a magical experience in Orlando and we had to run in the rain with trash bags.. thank you

Kira was one of the most genuine people in my life. She was always extremely honest with me and always made me laugh. She would make me the best tea and we'd talk about life. This photo is from of of the last times we hung out at a tea lounge. I didn't think it would be my last photo with her. My condolences to the family of Sakira. I am truly heartbroken, I will miss her dearly. 

Fly high beautiful, beautiful girl. Sakira was my classmate, and my friend. Always there to lend a helping hand, or listen whenever anyone needed her. Highschool was a wild ride, but I can’t imagine it without her. I will forever remember her and miss her dearly.

I went to high school with Sakira and ran track and cross country with her. She was such an amazing soul. She was hardworking, compassionate, and always happy. Whenever I wasn’t feeling good, she always made me laugh. I am beyond saddened by her loss. She was an angel on this earth. 

My first year at West Broward as a new debate teacher/coach was overwhelming; but having students like Sakira who were understanding, thoughtful , and helpful, made each day a pleasure. 
Sakira loved the family bond and suggested we get together outside of class and tournaments to have fun.  At that point, I asked her to be the team’s social coordinator, and she accepted.  Sakira relished the idea of coming up with fun activities for team bonding.  Members and their families enjoyed field days at the park, bowling, ice-skating, a Miami Heat game, a mall scavenger hunt, and even met at Crandon Park over the summer to spend the day at the beach.  When the team decided to host a car wash fundraiser, Sakira asked if we could have a balloon fight after.  She said she would provide the balloons and clean up after, so how could I refuse?  It is clear why Sakira was nominated for superlative awards such as most outgoing, life of the party, and best sportsmanship,
One of my fondest memories of Sakira was when we played a game in class called “Show me the Money”.  Each player would put in $1 and then be asked to defend why they deserve all the money.  Sakira thought outside of the box and combined her debate and humorous interpretation skills together for her speech.  She stepped into the hallway for a few seconds, then walked in very labored, bracing her back and resting her hand on her belly that was rounded by a sweatshirt she rolled up under her shirt. After the laughter ensued, she pleaded her case as to why she and her unborn baby were most deserving of this money.  Everyone laughed, applauded and crowned her the winner.  She waddled over to my desk, picked up the dollar bills, stuffed them in her bra, and remained in character for the rest of class.
Sakira was a beautiful, talented, and compassionate young lady whose spirit was infectious. I will never forget how she would portray an angry hispanic mom in class when someone would complain or to  just lighten the mood.


My heart is broken and my mind refuses to believe this is true. I feel blessed to have known someone so kind, intelligent, and amazing as Sakira. The time that I knew her throughout middle and high school produced so many wonderful moments and memories. From goofing off in debate class to her making boring debate tournaments the most fun I’ve ever had.  I am staring at our photos in disbelief and missing her terribly. I wish I could thank her for these happy memories and I thank her parents for raising such an incredible friend. She truly cared for her loved ones and was such a good and supportive friend. My condolences and love for her family and anyone else who was blessed to have known Sakira Corchado ❤️. I will forever keep her in my heart ❤️ 

Sakira was my classmate, teammate, and close friend. She comforted me during very difficult times of my life and was always a listening ear. Sakira was kind and understanding. I will always cherish the memories we created together. I send my condolences and prayers to the Corchado family.

Sakira was my classmate and teammate  throughout high school. She was always smiling and by my side during cross country practice or laughing in the hallways inbetween Debate rounds. She is a beautiful person inside and out who will be missed dearly. Sending lots of love and comfort to her family 

Sakira was my classmate for three years and brought nothing but light and joy into my life every day. Though I’m saddened to learn of her passing, remembering her smile, her energy, and the way she lit up the room every time she walked in brings a smile to my face. Sakira was so incredibly loved and I only hope to live my life in a way that makes people smile as much as she made me.

I remember the first time I met Sakira :) her first day of work! I asked her is she wanted to be my auntie.. or my cousin.. she chose to be my auntie. Even though we were only one year apart 🤍 my heart forever holds a place for her 💕 it was always great to hear her voice. And the smile behind her mask. I’m happy to have had the chance to make her laugh a couple of times.  No one is ever truly gone ❤️ Her beautiful spirit will forever life on !!! 

Vivian and David: My deepest condolences go out to you and your family. This is such devastating news.  Words could never ever express what my heart feels for you guys.  Too young WAY too soon.
Depression/suicide is a silent killer and the most ignored.  I was glad to see in lieu of flowers to send funds for a great cause. 
Depression is the most misunderstood condition.  May God give you the strength to carry on.  It’s horrible, just turn to God.  We don’t know why these things happen. 
God Bless you and give you the will to keep on moving for HER!
