Betty Sue Setzer Parlier 99, of Stanley passed away on April 30, 2026.
She was born on December 7, 1926 in Hudson, NC, the daughter of Manuel A. Setzer and Ruby Rutledge Setzer, and was blessed with a life rooted in faith, family and service to others.
Betty was the beloved wife of Wade Monroe Parlier, with whom she shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on faith and family. She was a devoted mother to her son, Wade Dixon Parlier and his wife Bevin, and her daughter, Lisa Burch and her husband Chuck. She was a proud grandmother to Amy Carpenter and her husband Josh, and her great-grandson, Walter.
She graduated from Hudson High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, majoring in History with a minor in Spanish from Lenoir Rhyne College. She faithfully served as a teacher for 42 years in Catawba and Burke Counties, touching countless lives with her kindness, patience, and steady encouragement.
She was a faithful member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, Maiden, NC where she served as an adult Sunday School teacher and as President of the Women of the Church.
In her free time, she found joy in gardening, cooking, and reading – simple pleasures that she shared generously with those she loved.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of STLC for the love, kindness, and compassionate care they provided over the past 15 years. Your care was truly a blessing.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 2 PM at St Martin’s Lutheran Church, Maiden to celebrate her life and the promise of eternal life through Christ.
