He was born on May 21,1928, to the late James Harland Hefner and Jessie Lee Hollar Hefner in Catawba County. Bill was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was a United States Navy Veteran.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Carolyn Hefner, 7 siblings, and son-in-law, Paul Hacker.
Survivors include his son, Randy Hefner and wife Julie of Hickory, daughter, Linda Hacker of Vale, 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; and sisters, Peggy Hefner, Jackie Benfield, and Carolyn Thornburg.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
