Blanche Turner Hamby

Blanche Turner Hamby, age 99, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Brookdale East in Hickory. Born March 29, 1917 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late David Lee Turner and Mamie Pearl Reitzel Turner. Blanche was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hickory. She retired from Vanguard Furniture Company. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tyrus Henry Hamby; son, James C. Hamby; son-in-law, Louie Sipe; and 7 seven brothers; and 4 sisters, Ruth Sain, Hattie Miller, Annie Lail, and Ollie Collins. She is survived by her daughter, Frances Hamby Sipe, of Hickory; granddaughters, Suehonor Connor of Mars Hill, NC, Ginger Rogg of Oregon, Dedie Andrews of Pineola, NC; and grandson, Paul Sipe of Durham, NC.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the church. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hickory, with Rev. Richard Schwandt and Rev. David Ludwig officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
