HICKORY – Camilla Jane Sutton Harwell, 92 of Hickory, passed away on December 29, 2023 after a period of declining health.
Camilla was born on February 12, 1931 in Lincoln County to the late Walter and Gladys Goodson Sutton. She was married to Jackie Lee Harwell for 62 years. They settled in Hickory in 1970 after time spent in Cherry Point, Raleigh, Goldsboro and Charlotte. She was a homemaker but happily pitched in to work in the family business in 1985. Camilla attributed her sharp mind at age 92 to being an avid reader, working puzzles and cheering on the Atlanta Braves.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Harwell and sister Elizabeth Sutton Little.
Those left to cherish her memory are sons and their spouses Jerry Neal Harwell (Pam Harwell), Jackie Sutton Harwell (Jane Earnest); grandchildren, Jeremy Lee Harwell (Rachel Harwell), Erin Harwell Horton (Daryl Horton); great grandchildren, Kaia Vega Harwell, Justin Wesley Leatherman and Dillon Levi Horton, Jasper Lee Harwell, Mariah Ashelyn Horton; great-great-grandson, Ahmir Leor Leatherman; and a nephew David Henry.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 2 PM at Catawba Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Christy officiating. The family will hold a private entombment at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 PM – 2 PM at the funeral home.
