

Charles James Bost died at home January 18, 2016, after an extended illness. He was born on January 29, 1921 in Claremont, NC. He graduated from Claremont High School in 1939 and later attended Lenoir-Rhyne College, graduating in 1947 after taking out time to serve in the Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II. Mr. Bost served a 35 year career as a Catawba County Educator, including serving as Principal of St. Stephens High School. He was also a former Newton professional baseball player in the position of left field for the Newton Conover Twins. Mr. Bost was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Deal Bost and two brothers, Bill and Gene and two sisters, Evelyn and Lottie. He is survived by wife, Jennie Poteat Bost, and son, Carl Lee Bost and spouse, Jackie of Simpsonville, SC, son Charles Michael Bost and spouse, Michael Black of Cary, NC, two stepsons, Keith Wood and David Wood and spouse, Debbie, one stepdaughter, Stella Brewer and spouse, Steven, brother, Jack Bost and sister, Nancy Arndt. Mr. Bost was blessed with many loving grandchildren including Lawson Bost and spouse, Andrew Bost and spouse, Allison Bost, Connor Bost, Logan Brewer, Tamara Mace and spouse, Michael Harding and spouse, Zach Wood, Brandon Wood, Ashlie Gossett and spouse and 12 great grandchildren. Over the years, Mr. Bost served on several committees as a faithful member to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, and will be missed by many family and friends. Funeral service for Mr. Bost will be held on Thursday, January 21st at 1:00 pm at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Hickory with the Rev. Dave Keck officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 20th at Catawba Funeral Home from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.
