

Born September 1, 1936 in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Wray Melton Stirewalt and Elease Barrett Stirewalt.
He graduated from Appalachian State University. The majority of his career was spent working at Catawba Valley Community College in the admissions and recruiting department. He was there for over 30 years.
One of his favorite scriptures was Philippians 4:6-7: 6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
He was known for his generosity and willingness to help others. His family was his top priority. He would go to great lengths to make sure they had what they needed.
Dennis was fond of the water and enjoyed living on Lake Hickory.
He loved socializing and meeting new people. He amused his family with his ability to strike up conversations with random strangers.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ella Setzer Stirewalt of Hickory; son, Chuck Stirewalt of Hickory; daughter, Lisa Biddix and husband Jeff of Hickory; brother, Bruce Stirewalt and wife Wanda of Madison, Misssissippi; grandchildren, Megan Biddix, Justin Biddix, Taylor York, Bryson Stirewalt, Connor Stirewalt.
A gathering of friends will be held from 2pm to 4pm Tuesday January 23 at the Drum-Hickory Funeral Home Chapel, 940 29th Ave NE Hickory NC 28601-1183.
