

NEWTON— Doris Sigmon Yount, 89 of Newton went to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 26, 2017 at her residence after a period of declining health. Born in Catawba County on January 11, 1928 to the late Martin Floyd and Dora Mae Mauney Sigmon. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her 2 brothers, Melvin Sigmon and Glenn Sigmon. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Startown. She retired from Hickory City Schools as finance officer. Her true passion was sacred music. She started playing as church organist at age 13 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, served as church organist at many churches, and she retired from playing at age 83. She is survived by her husband Reverend Glenn A. Yount Sr. of the home; a daughter Susan Yount Peacock and husband Maurice of Pine Knoll Shores; a son Glenn A. “Tony” Yount Jr. of Chapel Hill; a grandson Reece Peacock of Pine Knoll Shores; a brother Clinton Sigmon and wife Edith of Newton; a sister-in-law Martha Sigmon of Newton; nieces Barbara Sigmon Starr, and Jane Pistole; and nephews Keith, Randy, Mark, and Chris Sigmon. Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Abernethy Laurels Spirit Place with Rev. Dr. Susan Roddey, Rev. Al Mullin, and Rev. O. Ralph Kraft Jr. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ones favorite charity. Online condolences may be left at www.hickoryfh.com.
