Fannie Belle Sigmon entered into the arms of God on Wednesday, February 26, at the age of 92, surrounded by her husband and family at home. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Clyde Mackie, Charles Jackie, David, Ray Dennis, Billy Elmore, Ruth, Barbara, Ruby, and Peggy.
Born in Catawba County, North Carolina to Elsie Hedrick and Charlie Ross Pope, Fannie will always be remembered for her compassion and selflessness. She was an active, life-long member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC, and her faith shaped her moral beliefs to always care for others. Fannie never met a stranger and had a remarkable way of making everyone she encountered feel valued and appreciated.
She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years Hal Lafayette Sigmon; her two children, Bruce (Pam) Sigmon and Jonathan (Gayle) Sigmon; her grandchildren, Amanda (Brett) Sain, Rebecca (Usbaldo Sr) Huitron, Sydney (Andrew) Moss, Samuel Sigmon, Alicia Sigmon, and Lauren (Cory) Bissland; and her great-grandchildren Usbaldo (Amber) Huitron, Dylan Huitron, Savanah Huitron, Jasmine Huitron, Leela Sain, Ping Jun Sain, Rory Sain, and Tea Sain.
Fannie had many talents, from sewing furniture to her time as a CNA. She also studied phlebotomy and always cared for her patients with the utmost compassion. Her heart was full of love, and she never felt anger towards others. She was a light in the world and will be dearly missed by anyone who has encountered her warm spirit. Her smile and presence brightened the room. Although she is gone, her legacy continues in the love she passed on to others.
The family will hold a memorial service on Sunday, March 23rd at 2:00 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Fannie’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the North Carolina Nurse’s Association ( https://portal.ncnurses.org/donate-now) in her honor.
May she rest in peace, and may her memory forever live in our hearts and minds.
