He was born on July 10, 1957, the son of Georgia Isenhour Teague and Larry Teague “Pop” of Maiden, NC. He was preceded in death by his birth father Geter Junior Edmonds of Newton, NC.
Geter married the love of his life right out of high school on November 20, 1976, his surviving wife Cynthia Campbell Edmonds of Hudson, NC.
He began his truck driving career with Gaines Motor Lines of Hickory, NC. He spent many years there, and built life-long friendships. He later moved on to work for other companies such as King Hickory Furniture and Caldwell Freight Lines. When Geter decided to change his career path, it was because he wanted to. He was the kind of worker that couldn’t be replaced, and more often than not he always had an open invitation to come back anytime.
Geter changed his career path after Caldwell Freight and went to work for Reese’s Wrecker Service. He learned and mastered the towing and recovery business for well over 15 years until Reese’s was no more.
He found a home at Keen Towing and Recovery in Lenoir, NC for a while. Then he got the opportunity to drive for Nascar. As things slowed down during COVID lockdown, it was okay because Geter’s reputation as a person and employee landed him Chad Abernathy Trucking. He ran teams back and forth to Washington State.
Geter was always working. It was what he loved to do. He loved people and feeling needed. He was a member, volunteer, and also elected President once or twice at the Hudson Optimist. He had no problem volunteering his money to a good cause, especially where children were involved.
Geter is survived by four daughters and one son. Mrs. Rita E. Shade and husband Robert S. Shade,II of Maiden, NC; Mrs. Angela E. Lingerfelt and husband Paul Shane Lingerfelt of Hickory, NC; Mr. Forest Alan Edmonds and wife Jessie Edmonds of Statesville, NC; Ms. Elizabeth Ann Edmonds of the home; Mrs. Krystal Vetetoe Craig and husband Larry Craig of Hickory, NC.
Geter is also survived by ten grandchildren: Harley Lingerfelt, Melanie Lingerfelt, Marissa Shade, Spencer Shade, Geter D. Edmonds, Gabryele Edmonds, Girnee Edmonds, Ginger Edmonds, Chauncy Wardwick and Jordan Wardwick.
Geter was preceded in death by one brother Charles Woodrow Edmonds of Hickory, NC. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sherry E. Butler and late husband Michael Butler; Mrs. Cindy E. Schronce and husband Randy Schronce all of Maiden, NC. Sister-in-law, Tracy Montgomery and husband Monty Montgomery of Newton, NC; mother-in-law, Lesley Rainey Campbell and her husband the late Forest Campbell of Hickory, NC. He had several beloved nieces and nephews: Gary Butler, William Butler, Ashley Schronce Snell, Lindsey Schronce, Tyre Montgomery, Alex Teague, and Tiffany Thrasher.
There were even some great nieces and nephews. Over the past several days there were many words used to describe Geter: “Buddy”, “Friend”, “Hero”, “Legend”, “Husband”, “Father”, etc.
We as his family pray he finally got to hear: “Welcome home good and faithful servant, welcome home!”
