

She was born in Edgefield, SC on September 1, 1925 to Henry Midis Smith and Osha Herman Smith. She grew up in Burke County, NC where she met Thad Wilson. She and Thad married on October 22, 1947 in Newport News Va, and were happily married until his death in 1983.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother- Lee Earnest Smith; sisters- Velma Rae Lowman, Pansy Smith Cline, Mary Lee Smith Rhoney, Virginia Abernathy Wilson; and most recently her beloved daughter, Doris Napier. She is survived by one son, Tony Wilson; one sister, Marie Smith Evans; four grandchildren, Richard Napier (Dreama), David Napier (Mary Beth), Kara Mabele (Gerald), Kami Little (Aaron); great-grandchildren Shawn Napier (Rebekah), Christina Schmuckli (Stefan), Jadon Wilson, Makenna Wilson, Avett Little; and 1 great-great grandchild Alistaire Napier; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Hazel was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Hampton, Va. Hazel loved her family, crafting and sewing, and going to bingo with her daughter. If Heaven has a bingo hall, she and Doris will be there every night. Hazel will be missed by all those she leaves behind.
The family will host visitors at Peninsula Funeral Home Wednesday, October 6 from 5PM-6PM. There will also be a visitation at Catawba Funeral Home in Hickory, NC on Friday, October 8 at 12PM, followed by a funeral service at 1PM.
