Mrs. Helen Pauline Stokes

HICKORY – Helen “Polly” York Stokes, 95, of Hickory passed away on May 13, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice.

Born on April 23, 1919 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late John Samuel and Sarah Hefner York. Polly was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She attended St. Peters Lutheran Church in Conover.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Odell Stokes Sr.; daughter, Barbara Stokes Dellinger Robinson; son, Odell “Butch” Stokes Jr.; grandson, Terry Gene “Geno” Stokes Jr.

Survivors include her children, Terry Gene Stokes Sr. and wife Donna of Mt. Holly, Peggy Stokes Eckard and husband Dalthard of Tupelo MS, Paula Stokes Walker of Hickory; grandchildren, Denise Stokes Hall, Jackie Barkley, Tracy Kuhnemann, Dax Eckard, Ashlee Biccum, Erin Burns, 17 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 12 PM at Catawba Funerals & Cremations with Rev. Paul D. Birner officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11-12 PM at the funeral home.
