James Carol Hamby

HICKORY—James Carol Hamby, 78, passed away November 14, 2015 after a period of declining health. James was born September 2, 1937 in Catawba County to Blanche Turner Hamby and the late Tyrus “Ty” Henry Hamby. James had an adventurous spirit, and loved to snow ski and be in the outdoors. He was owner and operator of Linville Food Center and Capel Rug Shop in Blowing Rock. James was also a former member of Christ Lutheran Church. Surviving is his mother Blanche Turner Hamby; daughters Suehonor Hamby Connor and her husband Jeff, of Tennessee, Ginger Hamby Rogg and her husband Helmuth of Oregon, and Dedie Hamby Andrews of Pineola; sister Frances Hamby Sipe of Hickory; 6 grandchildren; Fuller Connor, Lizzie Andrews, Katherine Andrews, Olivia Andrews, Sebastian Rogg and Isabel Rogg and a nephew Paul Sipe. The family will receive friends on Tuesday November 17, 2015 from 11:00 AM until 11:45 AM at Christ Lutheran Church. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday November 17, 2015 at 12:00 noon at Christ Lutheran Church with Reverend Richard Schwandt officiating.
