James “ Jim” “Candy Man” Leonard, 80, passed away August 20, 2013 at Frye Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. James was born August 11, 1933 in Catawba Co. to the late Ernest Vance and Lydia Anne Morrison Leonard. He was a life time member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he was known as the Candy Man, retired from G. E. and was a U. S. Army veteran. He also loved hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Daniel Leonard, Dr. Walter Leonard and Ed Leonard, two sisters, Evola Burris and Juanita Shrum. Surviving are his wife, Muriel Brittain Leonard of Hickory; daughter, Kim Hollars and husband, Danny, of Lenoir; son, Dennis Leonard and wife, Susan, of Hudson; grandchildren, Joshua Hollars of Fort Mill, SC; Jessica Wisniewski and husband, Carl, of Normal, IL; Charity Huffman and husband, Chris, of Lenoir and special pets, Lola, Maggie, Beacon, Koda, Noah, Gizmo and Zoe. Services will be Friday, August 23, at 2:00 P. M. at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Edward Harper, Jr. and Rev. Dr. J. David Hill officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 – 8:30 P.
