

HICKORY – John Southerland Bailey, 90, of Hickory passed away at his residence, Friday, June 21, 2019. Born in Kinston, NC on September 21, 1928, he was the son of the late George Bailey and Betty Southerland Bailey. He was a retired Staff Sergeant of the U. S. Army serving during the Vietnam War,
and was a member of New Covenant Church of God. John was a giving servant and recently finished reading God’s word for the 46th time. He was a strong-willed, humorous, artistic, crafty, hard-working, busy, highly respected man who loved God, family, church and country. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joselene Buff Propst Bailey. Survivors include his daughters, Sherry P. Ward of Hickory, Vickie P. Toney and husband Carroll of Hickory, Kim P. Lankford and husband David of Casar, Regina P. Propst and husband Tim of Connelly Springs, his son, Steve Propst and Wife Elizabeth of Hickory; daughters, Joni Quinn of Raleigh, and Nita Faye Spencer of Jackson, NC, and son, John S. Bailey Jr of Albany, LA. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held Monday, June 24, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hickory Funeral Home with Bishop Dennis Pitts officiating. Burial will follow the service at Brookford City Cemetery with military honors by Hickory Post 544. Arrangements are with Hickory Funeral Home.
