HICKORY – Mr. John Harold McDaris Sr., 93 of Hickory passed away on December 7, 2025 at Carolina Caring.
John was born on December 28, 1931 in Buncombe County to the late George and Ellie McDaris. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. John enjoyed fishing, camping and NASCAR. John was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean War and he served in the National Guard achieving the rank of Sergeant. He also served as Alderman for the town of Longview for 25 plus years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Joyce McDaris; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Shirley Jane McDaris Green, Sherry Inez McDaris Pittman and husband Tom, David Riechard McDaris and wife Debra, Melinda Diane McDaris Kastello and husband Tom, John Harold McDaris Jr. and wife Kathy, Robin Elaine McDaris Lambert and husband D.K., Joshua Caleb McDaris and wife Amy; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 1:30 PM at Catawba Funeral Home with Pastor Bert Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
