Judy E. Poteat, age 74 passed away peacefully on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Carolina Caring in Newton, NC. She was born to Lee Roy Propst & Bonlan (Tommy) Biggs on May 28th 1944. From birth to her death on Friday, she nourished people around her with her love and faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She married her childhood sweetheart and love of her life, Dean Poteat on February 14, 2003. They enjoyed traveling together to the mountains to treasure hunt at Flea markets and antique malls. She was always looking for a doll to add to her collection and of course anything butterfly. Prior to her heart surgery, Judy enjoyed caring for her beloved granddaughter, Ashlyn Poteat from birth until 2008 when her health started to decline. She also enjoyed going to Joyce Meyer Conferences with her daughter Tammy Harris. They took frequent trips every year just to be together. Dean & Judy made a trip to Danville Virginia every summer and would stay in a hotel just so the grandkids could swim. She loved spending time with family and fellowshipping around the table whether at Cracker Barrel, Longhorn or Bob Evans with her sister, Evelyn & dearest niece, Shelley. Her most enjoyable times in life were spent with her beloved Dean right by her side. Everyone always commented on their deep love for one another and how attentive Dean was to her every need.
Judy is survived by her loving husband, Dean Poteat; her brothers Wayne & Dwayne Garrett, her sisters Peggy Eason, Evelyn Hurley & Joan Parker. She had four children Tommy Powell (deceased), Teresa Curran, Tammy Harris and Danny Powell; she had two step sons Randy Poteat (deceased) & Eric Poteat, and three step daughters Angie, Sharon and Sissy as well as seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Judy touched are invited to Catawba Funeral Home at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, to honor Judy reminisce, grieve, and support each other.
A visitation will be held from 2:00 to 2:45 pm prior to the service.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the Carolina Caring for their attentiveness and loving care of our dearly departed loved one.
