

He enlisted into the Army, February 12, 1951, where he served for 3 years during the Korean War, and stationed Ft. Benning, GA. He was discharged, February 11, 1954 at Fort Benning, GA as a Sargent. He received a combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal, with 3 bronze service stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense service award, and Good Conduct Medal.
Kelly leaves his wife Laverna J. McNabb of 70 years of marriage; his sons Joel Lynn McNabb, Jeffery Lane McNabb, and wife Tameron, Jerry Lee McNabb and wife Patricia; grandsons Jason, Jeremiah, Jacob, Joshua, Cole, Tyler, and eleven great grandchildren; sister, Anna Loye Comer and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Leslie McNabb, parents William Bradford McNabb and Nettie McNabb; sisters, Frances McNabb, Georgia Evans, Mary Sue Hunt, Dorlene Proctor, Emma Jean Lambeth; brothers WB, Harold, Vance, Donald and their spouses.
Family will receive friends, Friday, April 12, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Hickory Funeral Home. Funeral service follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Campbell from Royal Chapel Church of God, officiating.
Burial at Catawba Memorial Park with military honors. Pallbearers will be Jason, Jeremiah, Jacob, Joshua, Cole, and Tyler.
