Larry Joe Powell

Conover – Larry Joe Powell, 85 of Conover went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 7th, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on August 16th, 1940, in Catawba County, NC, Larry was the son of the late William Tate and Edna Catherine Hunt Powell. Larry was the owner of Hickory Roofing and Siding, Inc. He previously served as a reserve deputy for the Catawba County Sheriff’s Dept. and volunteer fireman for Fairbrook Fire Dept. He was an avid NASCAR and football fan. He was loved by his family and will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Martha Louise Taylor Powell.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Tim Powell and wife, Debbie; his daughter, Tammy Adams and husband, Dennis; his 3 grandsons, William Powell (Summar), Brandon Powell (Jen) and Luke Adams; his granddaughter, Christy Summers; his great grandchildren, Anya Powell, Tate Walker, Thatcher Short, and Timber Short, as well as his sisters, Sheila “Chi Chi” Lail and Doris Hill.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Catawba Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 12th, 2025 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Ben Rowe officiating.

He will be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery 801 17th Street Dr. NW, Hickory, NC 28601 after the service.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Carolina Caring in Larry’s name.
