

He was born on July 15, 1932 to the late Alfred “A.M.” McClellan Hefner and Esther Naomi Miller Hefner in Catawba County. Leo was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College. Before his most recent occupation as an Independent Sales Representative in Furniture, Leo worked for Hickory Sand Company as an Accountant and Hickory Fry Furniture as a Purchasing Agent. He was a dedicated, lifelong member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Hickory. Leo was a proud United States Army Veteran. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 48, a past Commander in 1971 and a member of the Honor Guard.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters; James (Ruth) Hefner, Bonnie Mae Killian (Preston), Irene (Ruel) Reeves, Virginia Haas (Paul), Christine Clontz (Ralph), Donald Hefner and infant great grandson, Sebastian.
Survivors include his son, Carson (Beth) Hefner of Hickory, their daughter, Hallie Hefner Barnett (Andrew) of Denver, NC, his grandchildren, Ryan Barnett, Hayden Barnett, Harrison Barnett; daughter, Carol Good (Milton) of Hickory, her children, McBarrett Good of Sweden, Matthew Good of Hickory, McClellan Good (Abi) of the Middle East, Moriah Good Hatch (Ben) of Hickory; her grandchildren, Malachi Good, Ezekiel Good, Micah Good; daughter, Carla Black of Bethlehem, Casey Black, Brooke Black of Charlotte; special friend, Gaye Hoots; nephew “special brother”, Lynwood Miller; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Kay Hefner.
A visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hickory Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. Rev. Dr. Ryan T. Ray will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 48.
