Martha "Jeannie" Jean (Setzer) Bowman

Born in Catawba County on November 6, 1950, she was the daughter of the late James Alfred and Minnie Herman Setzer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Brandy Bowman, sisters Carrie West, Catherine Cruse, Ruby Setzer and Annie Huffman and brothers James Setzer, Richard Setzer, Grover Setzer and Tom Setzer.

She was a graduate of East Carolina University and retired from Corning Cable Systems as Corporate Controller in Accounting. Jeannie was an avid animal lover and spent many years rescuing and volunteering for the cat’s cradle. She was actively involved with all her grandchildren, and they were the light of her life. Jeannie never learned to swim but loved the beach and she looked forward to a family beach vacation every year. Jeannie loved flowers and gardening and loved to sit and watch the birds that frequented her feeders. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She touched the lives of so many and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughters Megan Bowman of Hickory and Erica Bowman and Partner Kyle Settlemyer of Newton; granddaughters Abigail Galligher of Hickory and Elaina Settlemyer of Newton; grandsons Colton Galligher of Hickory, Jayden Bowman of Newton and Anthony Bowman of Newton; brothers Lewis Setzer and wife Lala of Hickory and Robert Setzer and wife Gloria of Granite Falls and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 21, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hickory Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 10:00 am at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel.

Entombment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
