HICKORY – Mary Alice Cline, 77 of Hickory went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 17, 2021 at her house surrounded by her family.
Mary was born on June 15, 1943 in Boyd County, KY to the late Glenn and Sophia Hicks Porter. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, Grani, sister and friend to all who knew her. Mary had the good fortune to have many passions that she enjoyed during her lifetime. Mary enjoyed traveling and had many adventures with family and friends. She traveled to all 50 states, Europe, enjoyed cruises including the Queen Mary II, and cross country drives through Canada and Alaska. She was a very driven lady with many roles and talents during her life. She took great pride in creating and maintaining a beautiful home for her family. She was a professional cake maker who made hundreds of cakes over the years for families who where celebrating birthdays, weddings, and other special events. She also was an enthusiastic and quite possibly the most vocal cheerleader that ever existed while cheering on her daughter, son, and grandchildren at baton competitions, swim meets, football and basketball games.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Glenn Porter Jr.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Hoyle Cline Jr.; children, Sandra Reece, Michael Cline and wife Heather, grandchildren, Adam Reece and wife Taylor, Abby Vosburg and husband Jacob, Emma Cline, Jack Cline; and sister, Betty Coffey.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, January 22, at 2 PM at Catawba Funeral Home with Pastors Pete Ross and Tom McDonald officiating. Entombment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
