Mary Gaines Travis

HICKORY— Mary Gaines Travis, 89, of Hickory passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Catawba Regional Hospice. She was born March 22, 1927 in Catawba County to the late Junius and Maggie Misenheimer Gaines. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Shyke Travis; sister Macie Hill; brothers Andrew Gaines, Howard Gaines, JD Gaines, and Forrest Gaines. Mary was survived by her daughters Joyce Sronce and husband Phillip of Hickory and Sherry Hutto and husband David of Conover, a son Rick Simpson and wife Mari of Vale; step-daughter Crystal Travis; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 11:00am to 12:30pm at Hickory Funeral Home followed by a 1:00pm graveside service at Eastview Cemetery with Reverend Dr. Mark Schmitz.
