HICKORY- Sometimes we often wonder why God would take a loved one from us—such is the case with Maureen Jones. She was always there to help anyone, whether it was a family member or a complete stranger. Maureen always put everyone else first, and herself last. After a brief illness, Maureen passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017. She leaves behind her husband of almost 50 years, Bob, as well as 2 sons, Steven, with granddaughters Madison & Delaney, and Scott, with wife Jill, and grandchildren Gavin & Ella. The grandchildren will especially miss their “Grandma Mo” and “NaNa Mo”. Maureen is also survived by 3 sisters, as well as 3 brothers. A special rescue dog, Precious, was her favorite canine friend. Maureen worked at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY as an account representative, retiring in April 2007. She was responsible for establishing the Greece Olympia High School (GOHS) annual Craft Show, raising thousands of dollars to allow music students to travel & win many state and national choral and band competitions. She could be tenacious too – when a sudden storm threatened the cancellation of the Craft Show one year, she personally appeared before the School Board and told them in no uncertain terms that the show would go on, even if it meant she had to shovel the parking lots herself. The School Board relented and plowed the parking lots, which in turn allowed for one of the most successful Craft Show of all times. Maureen was truly selfless, welcoming “Fresh Air” children from New York City into her home over several summers and hosting exchange students for the NACEL Foreign Exchange Student Program. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting and doing ceramics. She was 69 years old. The family will receive friends Monday, July 3, 2017 from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm at Hickory Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 3, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jim Collins officiating. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, PO BOX 22478, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123 or www.americancancerfund.org. Online Condolences may be left at www.hickoryfh.com.
