

He was born on February 4th, 1959, to Grace Shelton Pruitt of Hickory and the late Clarence Everett Pruitt in Catawba County. During his life, he was a proud Pa-Paw of three young grandsons and a devoted husband and father. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. He retired as an Electrician with Catawba County Schools after 30 years but continued his work as a self-employed electrician and was a member of the Electrician Association of Catawba Valley. He was also a proud member and previous board member of R-CALF USA and a member of the Catawba County Cattlemen’s Association. Alan got to live out his dream of professional racing, competing in the ARCA series in the early 1990s, finishing a career best of 11th at Talladega Super Speedway on May 2, 1992.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife Deborah Kanupp Pruitt, daughter Emily Pruitt Rector (Alex) of Hickory, mother Grace Shelton Pruitt of Hickory, Grandsons; Jack, Hayes and Reid Rector, Sisters; Gloria Hix of Hickory and Mercia Barringer (David) of Hickory, brothers; Bruce Pruitt of Sherrills Ford, Gary Pruitt (Kim) of Garner, and Clarence Pruitt of Hickory, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday January 11th at 2:00pm at St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Pastor Eric Hauss will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends Saturday January 10th from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Hickory Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Catawba Memorial Park.
