Ralph Larkin Queen Jr., age 89, of Hickory, NC joined his late wife, Jean Parker Queen, in Heaven on Wednesday evening, November 2, 2022. Ralph was born in Morganton, NC. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and often shared fond memories of his time stationed in Germany. After his Honorable Discharge in 1955, he attended Western Carolina University where he graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Ralph worked as an Auditor for Wachovia Bank before retiring.
In his Senior years, before the Covid pandemic, Ralph enjoyed exercise and socializing with his buddies at the Hickory YMCA, meeting friends for coffee at the Viewmont McDonald's, and going to Harrah's Cherokee Casino. He also loved watching sports, especially football.
To know Ralph was to love him. He was a very kind and caring gentleman. He also had a great sense of humor, which he displayed even in his last hours of life. One could not be in his presence without smiling or having a good laugh. He will truly be missed by all of his family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Karen Queen Ready and her husband, Joe; stepchildren, Michael Hugh Frye and his wife, Vicky, Bobbie Frye Brown and her husband, John, and Kelli Frye Helton; grandchildren, David Poovey and his wife Sara, Bronson Brown, Dalton Brown, and his wife Morgan, and Alexander Larkin Bowers; and great grandchildren, Connor Poovey and Adalyn Huete.
A private memorial is being planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to: American Legion Post 48, PO Box 505, Hickory, NC 28603.
