

CONOVER----Rebecca Ruth Spencer Hunter, 83, passed away March 4, 2015 at her residence. Becky was born December 29, 1931 in Catawba Co. to the late Horace and Vassie Black Spencer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene "Gene" Hunter; brother, James “Ben” Spencer and a sister, Maxine Spencer Petherbridge. She was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Mo Synod, where, over the years, she faithfully served as a choir member, altar guild member, and in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Her dear friends in the Elizabeth circle will miss her, having been together for over 40 years. Becky was a full-time stay-at-home mother while she raised her children, but many in the Springs Road area will remember Becky from seeing her at her part-time job at Hardees for over 25 years. She was the best mom in the world to her three children.
Surviving is her daughter, Leslie Hunter Benfield and husband, Dennis, of Hudson; sons, Neil Hunter and wife, Michele, of Freemont, MI. and Tim Hunter and wife, Diana Fox ,of Durham. Becky had eight grandchildren: Rebeka Hunter, Hannah Hunter, Ethan Hunter, Aaron Hunter, Lily Hunter, Kate Hunter, Lindsay Drunasky, and Keriann Uesugi; and three great-grandchilden, Caroline and Carter Drunasky and Abigail Uesugi. She was also a beloved aunt to Lynn Petherbridge Trautwein, Ann Petherbridge, Jean Petherbridge, Mark Petherbridge, Kathy Petherbridge McGeehan and Karen Petherbridge. A memorial service will be held at her church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Mo Synod, 2304 Springs Rd., N. E., Hickory, N. C. 28601.
