

HICKORY – Ruby Leola Young Keller, 81 of Hickory passed away on, April 27, 2015 at her residence follow a period of declining health. Ruby Leola Young Keller was born May 5, 1933 in Henry River Mill Village, to the late Walter and Martha Robinson Young. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Rodger Lee Keller; two brothers, Eli Pinkney (Jewel Rudisill), Rev. Alvin Elbert (Edith Greenhill); two sisters, Mrs. David (Myrtle Alma) Gilbert and Mrs. Lawson Edward (Katie Thelma) Childers. Ruby retired from Sears in 1993 after 38 years in management. In 2012 she co-authored a book “Henry River Mill Village” with Nicole Hefner Callihan. Ruby attended Hildebran High School and graduated from Mt. View High School in 1951. After retiring from Sears she designed and made window treatments for decorators and Fabric Shops in Hickory, Morganton and Lincolnton. She is survived by her sons Gerald Keller and wife Connie, and Brian Keller and wife Terry; grandsons, Chad Keller, Brian B.J. Keller, Austin Keller; granddaughter, Chastity Benfield, great-grandsons, Tucker Keller, Parker Keller, Logan Barnes, great-granddaughters, Caroline Keller, Abigail Keller, Breanah Barnes and Bella Benfield.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Hickory Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 11:00am in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home with Reverend Ron Arndt officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
