Samuel Charles Young

Samuel Charles “Charlie” Young, 70, went to be with his Lord on April 7, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born October 10, 1942 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Johnnie Leroy Young and Mintie Ellen Young. He retired after 30 years with the City of Hickory Fire Department, was an avid hiker, and enjoyed rebuilding cars and woodworking. Charlie was a member of Mt Zion Lutheran Church, but attended Our Saviour Lutheran Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Brenda Townsend Young.

Charlie is survived by son, Captain Chad A. Young and wife Dawn of Augusta, GA; daughter, Lori Y. Hollar and husband Tony of Claremont; grandchildren, Lauran Hollar of Charlotte, Tony Hollar, Jr. of Claremont and Joshua Young of Augusta, GA; sister, Linda Young of Conover and close friends, Hilda Cline and Terry Butler; three brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church with the Revs. Scott Bollinger and Bob Stevenson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Drum Funeral Home in Hickory and other times at Charlie’s home.
