

She was born on January 15, 1946, to the late Nathan David Goodnight and Minnie Bell Kirby Goodnight in Catawba County. Sylvia was a member of Westview United Methodist Church.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Betsy Goodnight.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Sonya Starnes of Nashville, TN, sons: Wesley Starnes and wife Cathy of St. Stephens, Von Starnes and wife Jamie of St. Stephens, grandchildren: Jessica Ford and husband Todd of Hickory, Caroline Grace Bruton and husband Ben of Conover, Jesus Vasquez and wife Tasha of Hickory, Bradley Pendleton and Megan of Charlotte, Joshua Mecimore and wife Katie of Statesville, Adam Starnes and wife Jennifer of Mooresville, great grandchildren: Aida Starnes, Parker Mecimore, Sylvie Bruton, Bentley Hankinson, Mia Vasquez, Brooklyn Hankinson, Brady Starnes, Braxton Hankinson, Baby Boy Mecimore on the way, sister; Brenda Phillips of Statesville, brothers: Jerry Goodnight of Valdese, and Wyman Goodnight and wife Dawn of St. Stephens, dear friends; Dee Little, Drenda Moore, Jean McBride, Linda Collins, and Marcella Kanupp.
A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Hickory Funeral Home.
A special thank you to all who cared for our mother during her illness: Dr. Paige Parker, Dr. Michael Bridges, Emerge Ortho, Dr. Phillip Bostian, Dr. Al Geissele, Dr. Theodore Grey, Dr. Matt Fowler, Dr. Christina Vitale, Conover Nursing and Rehab., CVMC- Emergency Room and the Oncology & Ortho Floors.
We pray special blessings on all those who cared for our mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
