Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend.
Armando lived a life full of love, generosity, and dedication to family and community. He cherished his days alongside his devoted wife of 72 years, Bernardina Petriglia Palmieri.
His 16 grandchildren called him Nonno, and he adored them all–and instilled in each of them his great love of flowers, nature, landscaping, birdhouses, and playing the harmonica. He also loved construction, working with his sons, and visiting with his daughters. Some of his greatest memories were made spending time at his country house in Monticello, where all the family would come together to share barbecues, fireworks, tractor rides, and swimming. He loved making homemade wine and sausage each season often enlisting the help of many willing family members. He was an avid parishioner at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Hicksville, and before that, Notre Dame Church in New Hyde Park and St. Gerard Majella in Hollis, Queens.
Armando was born in Torrice, Italy on June 27, 1926 to the late Concetta and Antonio Palmieri. His young life consisted of working the family farm, and helping his dad run the small family business delivering building materials by cart. Armando was a member of the Italian Army beginning in 1947. Upon being discharged from the Italian army, he married his bride on August 3rd, 1952. He immigrated to America in 1953 and joined his wife to start a new life in Rockaway Beach, NY. Immediately upon arriving in America, he began working various jobs in construction, and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 456 for over 30 years. He also had ownership in, and helped run, several successful construction businesses over the years. Armando worked well into his 90’s assisting his sons in running their businesses, and reluctantly retired this part of his career at age 96.
Left to cherish his memory are: Bernardina Palmieri at home, son John (Millie) Palmieri of Plainview, NY; Silvana Palmieri of Plainview, NY; Luciano (Mira) Palmieri of Dix Hills, NY; Bruno (Nadia) Palmieri of Monroe, NY; MaryAnn (Mike) Molloy of Highland Mills, NY; Mario (Lauri) Palmieri of Roslyn Heights, NY and Anthony (Cathy) Palmieri of Commack, NY; sixteen grandchildren: Kara, Ivana, Michael, Cristina, Michele, Erica, Christopher, Nicole, Elisabeth, Christian, Raffaela, Matthew, Olivia, Heather, Nicholas, and Joseph; 10 great-grandchildren: Isabel, Sofia, Giovanni, Luke, Sabrina, Lucas, Emilia, Miles, Nathan and Alexander. He was predeceased by his brother, Orazio Palmieri, and two sisters, Gina (Palmieri) Venturi and Pasqualina (Palmieri) Orologio.
