Gloria Odnoha, 96, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026. Born Gloria Schork on October 16, 1929, in New York City, she grew up on Manhattan’s Upper East Side (then Germantown) with her parents Barbara and Wendell, sister Theresa, and their pet parrot.
As a young wife and mother, Gloria lived briefly in Port Neches, Texas, before returning to New York to settle in Hicksville, Long Island. There, she raised her three children and became known for her exceptionally kind, generous heart—regularly supporting American Indian causes and volunteering to help local seniors.
Gloria was vibrant, outgoing, and loved to dance and host parties. Once her children grew older, she turned her passion for adventure into a career as a travel agent, exploring Germany, Austria, England, Italy, Egypt, and beyond. After retirement, Gloria became a snow bird, splitting her time between Little River, South Carolina and Hicksville. In South Carolina she joined the Red Hatters, pursuing new friendships and embracing the joys of aging.
Above all, Gloria cherished her family. She was a deeply devoted grandmother who never missed a milestone, proudly cheering at every communion, graduation, and school theater performance. Her loss leaves a deep void, but her joyful spirit lives on in those she loved.
Gloria is survived by her children Carol, Joseph, and Linda; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Native American Heritage Association (NAHA) in her name, or to your favorite charity.
