Jack E. Martin, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected member of the community, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2024, in Islandia, NY. He was born on March 17, 1937, in Long Beach, California, to his loving parents Kenneth and Charlotte Martin.
Jack shared 55 years of marriage with his devoted wife, Vicki Martin, whom he cherished deeply. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
As a father, Jack was a source of love, guidance, and support to his sons Geoffrey Martin (Jennifer) and Gregory Martin. His role as a dad was one of the most important aspects of his life, and he took great pride in his children's accomplishments.
Jack was also a cherished grandfather, affectionately known as "Grandpa" and "Pop Pop," to Aidan, Colby, Gregory, and Khloé. He adored his grandchildren and found immense joy in spending time with them, watching them grow and creating special moments together.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Charlotte, and his siblings Janice Cowan and James Martin. While he will be deeply missed by those who knew him, his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
A proud Navy Veteran, Jack served his country with honor and distinction. He traveled extensively during his service and had the privilege of serving on the United States Navy aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise, including during the Cuban Missile Crisis and served alongside notable figures such as John McCain.
In addition to his military service, Jack was an adjunct professor at NYIT, where he shared his passion for learning with his students. He was also actively involved in his community, coaching soccer and participating in the Cub Scouts.
An avid reader, Jack found solace and enjoyment in books. He cherished moments spent with his wife, Vicki, especially when they would go shopping together, allowing him the opportunity to indulge in his love for reading while she shopped.
Above all, Jack was a devoted family man who treasured the time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren. His love and presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visitation for Jack E. Martin will be held on Thursday, April 25th, 2024, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes, located at 125 W. Old Country Road, Hicksville, NY 11801.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project and the Tunnels to Towers in Jack's memory, honoring his commitment to serving his country and supporting those in need.
