Kevin G. Cookston

January 15, 1959 – August 2, 2025

Kevin Cookston, 66, of Hicksville, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025. Born on January 15, 1959, in Temple, Texas, Kevin was a kind-hearted, easygoing soul who brought warmth, laughter, and patience to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Kevin was the beloved husband of Mary Cookston, with whom he shared seven wonderful years filled with love, companionship, and mutual respect. He was a good man and a truly patient partner, someone you could count on, day in and day out.

He was the cherished son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Cookston, and a devoted brother to Bob Cookston (Jackie), Kelly Scudder (Larry), Tricia Keller, and the late Chuck and Danny Cookston. His bond with his siblings and extended family ran deep, and he remained a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews who adored him.

Kevin had a wide circle of friends and a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. He loved spending time with his buddies at the Double L Tavern and The Time Out Sports Café in Hicksville, sharing laughs, stories, and memories over the years. A passionate fan of the New York Jets and Mets, Kevin stood by his teams through every season, always loyal. Kevin especially cherished vacations at Lake George with his friends, where laughter echoed across the water and memories were made year after year.

His love for music spanned genres, but he had a special place in his heart for rock music. His playlist was as bold and vibrant as his personality. He also enjoyed trips to Saratoga, where he spent time with friends, indulged in some lighthearted horse betting, and never missed a chance to bet on his favorite number: 15.

Kevin Cookston was loved by all who knew him. His kindness, humor, and steady presence will be dearly missed but never forgotten. His spirit lives on in the music he loved, the games he cheered for, the bars where he shared stories, and in the hearts of those he touched.

A celebration of life will be held at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes on Tuesday, August. 19, 2025 from 4:00pm – 8:00 pm.
