Barbara Burton Levina died surrounded by her family on November 15. She faced her kidney failure diagnosis in 2011 with determination and without self pity. Barbara was born May 19, 1928, the devoted daughter of William Wesley Burton and Lillian Bilbro Burton. She was raised in High Point along with her loving sisters, Beverly Goldston and Martie ("Midge") Hester.
She attended High Point Central High School and High Point College. A talented artist, she put her plans to attend art school in New York on hold to marry O.B. Levina, Jr. Barbara was also a brilliant seamstress, designing many dresses for her three girls. She would have been a Project Runway winner had it existed then. Barbara was a lifelong member of Wesley Memorial Methodist Church where she baked chicken pies and enjoyed her work on the Chrismon tree. She was also a sustaining member of the Junior League of High Point.
She loved beautiful things, roses, Switzerland, Thanksgiving family celebrations at Hilton Head, crossword puzzles, her high school cheerleader trips and New York City. Most of all, she cherished her family. Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, O.B.; her sister Martie Hester (Erwin); her brother-in-law Bill Goldston; her four children-- Susan Baskauskas, Robin Seabolt (Bob), Lynn Fellos, and Bill Levina (Kalie); eight grandchildren -- Eric Baskauskas, Paige Amuedo (Mark), David Baskauskas, Caroline Seabolt, Meredith Seabolt, Chris Fellos, Catherine Levina, and Ellie Levina; and one great-granddaughter, Macy Fellos.
She was predeceased by her sister, Beverly, and nephews Dick Goldston, David Goldston, and Will Hester. The family wishes to thank her nephrologist, Dr. Adeyinka Adegoroye, Dr. Peter Brath, and the loving nursing staff at High Point Regional Hospital.
A service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, November 18, at 3pm at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the Asbury Room following the service.
The family asks that any memorial contributions be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016, or to Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, 1225 Chestnut Dr, High Point, NC 27262.
Sechrest Funeral Service is Honored to serve the Levina Family.
