Chester honorably served in the United States Army in World War II. He retired from Carolina Trailways after working for them for 35 years. He had many hobbies such as construction and auto mechanics, and enjoyed bowling in the Senior Bowling League for several years. His greatest accomplishment was being married to his wife of 53 years, Ella Craven.
Chester was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include sons, Chester Clay Craven Jr. and Doug Campbell (Nita); four grandchildren, and a brother, Eugene Craven (Sharyn).
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Guilford Memorial Park at 6000 Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont 1801 Westchester Dr., High Point NC 27262.
