Irene Leonard

She was born March 21, 1923 in Franklinton, NC, a daughter of the late James Harmon Meekins and the late Mary Susan Melvin Meekins. Mrs. Leonard was a retired 2nd grade school teacher and a faithful member of Green Street Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, William Alexander Leonard, and her husband, Burgess Guy Leonard, Jr.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Alison and James Petraglia of High Point; a son and daughter-in-law, James Leonard and Joanne Brant of Tuscaloosa, AL; four grandchildren, Jamie Leonard, Burgess Guy Leonard III, Sarah Ann Leonard, Sarah Spagnola Goldberg and husband Yair Goldberg; one step-grandson, Geoffrey Hill; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Pennini and Jackie Kruger; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 30, 2015 in the chapel of Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point with Reverend Frank Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at the funeral home prior to the service.
