Joseph J. "Joe" Humble, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
Joe was born in Newport News, VA, and grew up in Asheboro, NC. He graduated from Asheboro High School in 1963 and from Wingate College in 1965. Joe then entered the United States Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War and then joined the U.S. Army Reserve for 18 years. He then began a forty year career in civil engineering, retiring from Davis Martin Powell and Associates. Joe so appreciated working with his co-workers, staff at DMP and his clients.
Joe loved the Lord, his family, reunions and gatherings. He wore many hats; he was Joe, Pop's, Grandaddy, Pop-Pop, Santa Claus, drill sergeant, G-Daddy and Dad. Joe loved all kinds of music, sports , military movies, surf fishings and golf. He was a member and past-master of the Masonic Lodge # 699.
Surviving are his wife of forty years, Olivia Surratt Humble; six children, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; his sisters, Betty Batten and Patsy Allen; a brother, Barry Gay (Cindy); brother in law and sister in law, Randy and Janis Surratt.
At Joe's request, no formal services will be held. The family will have a private Celebration of Joe's life at a later date. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health, the Kernersville VA and Station #5, High Point Fire Dept for their loving care of Joe. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made in Joe's honor to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565-2758 or to Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
