Ophelia was born in High Point, April 7, 1930, a daughter of the late Clarence Cone Cooper and Bertha Ophelia Rickert Cooper. A life long resident of High Point, she was a graduate of High Point High School. Ophelia worked for many years at Tomlinson Furniture and then with the Guilford County School system at Shadybrook Elementary as a teacher assistant. After her retirement, she volunteered as a reading and math tutor at Southwest Elementary School with the first grade teachers team. Ophelia was a life long member of Green Street Baptist Church, starting in the nursery on the cradle roll. She was a dedicated member of the Silver Sneakers at High Point Regional Hospital and enjoyed arts and crafts. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and trips to the beach.
Ophelia was preceded in death by her husband, R. R. Jones, two sons, Michael Keith Jones and Kenneth R. Jones and two aunts, Nola Rebecca Rickert and Fay Rickert Boles.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Jones Allen and her husband Floyd D. Allen and Christy Jones Burroughs and her husband Charles Elliot Burroughs; seven grandchildren, Keith Allen and his wife Amy, Laura Allen Weavil and her husband Chase, Beth Burroughs Culler and her husband Drew, Michael Burroughs, Ashley Burroughs, Kristin Jones, and Steven Jones and wife Jade; four great-grandchildren, Ellie Holden, Connor Allen, Emily Allen and Avery Weavil; a cousin, Donald Rickert.
A Celebration of Ophelia's life will be held Saturday, January 30, at 2 p.m. in the Davis Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Green Street Baptist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.
