

Mr. Gober was born in Greenville, N.C. on June 6, 1927 to Powell Clifton and Sadie Ruth Johnston Gober.He attended E. C. Glass High School and Lynchburg College, and graduated from V.P.I. with a degree in engineeering. He served his country in the U. S. Army. Mr. Gober retired as Vice-President and General Manager of the Knit Division of Klopman Mills of Burlington Industries after thirty one years ;and was named “Boss of the Year” for the company in Virginia. Mr. Gober worked as a consultant for Klopman Mills, International Executive Service Corps, and the World Bank taking him all over the world including China,South America, Egypt, Russia, and Europe. Mr. Gober and his wife retired to this area and made their home at Maryfield, where he attended Mass and enjoyed his photography, gardening, and music as long as his health permitted.
Surviving are his wife, whom he married in 1950, Mrs. Jeanne Corcoran Gober of Maryfield and a daughter, Karen Diaz of New York, New York. Mr. Gober has two sons, Robert Gober, Jr. of Maryland and Rodger Gober and wife Margaret of Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia and one sister; Nancy Kempf of Vinton, Va. There are two grandchildren, Matthew Diaz and Carla Diaz and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Reverend Father Vincent E. Smith, O.S.F.S. celebrant. Inurnment followed in the church columbarium.
