Ruth was born on January 1, 1932, in Davidson County to the late Margie Mullins York and Easley Arnold York. She was a lifelong member of Southside Baptist Church, where she held several positions, including church clerk, church secretary and trustee. She taught the Royal Pearls Sunday school class.
Ruth attended the Women’s University of Greensboro, now UNCG, and received her Master’s Degree in Education. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, where she held most all positions. Ruth was a “Golden Sister” of the sorority and received her fifty year certificate. She worked in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System, where she was a teacher and was also a guidance counselor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margie Mullins York and Easley Arnold York; and sister, Doris Geraldine York Robertson.
Ruth is survived by a niece, Victoria Martin (Roger); nephew, Lyman Robertson (Linda); and three great nephews, Wayne Robertson, Adam Robertson (Amanda) and York Martin (Kelsey); three great-great-nephews, Mason Robertson, Harrison Martin and Owen Martin.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro with Pastor Dan Balsom officiating.
