

Sarah Alice Virginia Ellison McIlvaine died on Monday, December 26, 2011, a resident of River Landing. Born in High Point, North Carolina, on February 27, 1917, she was the daughter of Arthur and Bessie Whitesel Ellison. She attended High Point Central High School, High Point University and Jones Business College, as well as Guilford Technical Teachers College. She retired several years ago after a long career in the business world.
On August 9, 1936, she was married to Ebert Roy McIlvaine, deceased. She was a devoted mother of her four daughters, Eileen Roy, Alice Marie, Joyce Ellison, and Sara Dean who were her life.
Virginia was a member of the Woman’s Club of High Point serving on all committees. She was chosen “Women of the Year” in 1990. She was also a member of the Alexander Martin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of the Guilford Chapter 301 of the United Daughters of Confederation. She has been a volunteer for High Point Museum and was awarded the 1991 “Valette Welsh” Memorial award from the High Point Museum. She enjoyed taking school children on tours of the museum. She was also a volunteer for Mobile Meals, delivering meals to the shut-ins. She is a third generation member of the First Baptist Church, High Point, NC, serving in many different areas. She was extremely active in genealogy, especially the family history of the Ellison and Whitesel families.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Ellison Henderson.
Virginia McIlvaine is survived by her daughters, Eileen Koerner and husband, Edgar, Alice Parson and husband George, Joyce Avent and husband Don, and Sara Bostick and husband Thomas; grandchildren, Thad Avent and wife Jeme, Scott Avent, Rachel Parsons and husband David Klemek, Brad Bostick and wife Kim, Allison Liu and husband Patrick; great-grandchildren, Peter Klemek, Sage Klemek, Levi Klemek, Dierdre Klemek, Bleu Avent, Kerrington Bostick, Camden Bostick, and Nathan Liu and a sister, Anna Lee Ellison Mowery.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5th, 2012 at River Landing at Sandy Ridge. The family will receive friends following the service.
