

Jack Miesel, age 82 of Highland Twp., Michigan passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016 in Commerce Twp., Michigan. Jack was born in Highland Park on November 16, 1933 to John and Frances Miesel. He later moved to West Acres in Oakland County. Jack served our country, joining the United States Army. He attended Michigan State University and received his PHD in Psychology from the Michigan School of Professional Psychology. Jack co-owned Waterford Family Counseling for many years. He offered support and guidance for children, drug and alcohol groups and was involved with the 51st District Court. He was also a well known grief support counselor in the White Lake and Highland Twp. area. Jack used his knowledge of Art to help his clients express their grief. They were able to paint with watercolors or mold clay while they focused their attention on healing from the loss of their loved one. Jack passionately volunteered throughout the community. He was a member of the Breakfast Optimist Club in Waterford for over 40 years and went on to assist in forming The Huron Valley Optimist Club and the Northwest Optimist Club. Jack started the apple sale in White Lake Twp. and for many years chaired the Huron Valley Optimist Club Annual golf outing. All proceeds went to support the Huron Valley Optimist club and their scholarship program, Bike Safety Program, Police Officer Recognition Program, Childhood Cancer Program and many other contributions that his efforts made possible in the community. Jack was involved at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In his younger years Jack ran track and loved to ski. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing at his property in West Branch. He loved painting and golfing. Jack spent winters with Toniann and their dog Sophie at their home in Palm Harbor, Florida.
Jack is survived by his wife of 18 years, Toniann Miesel; his children: Jack Miesel Jr., Lauren (Tony) Alessi, Todd (Jan) Miesel, Daniel Miesel, Kathryn (Kent) Scott and Mark Miesel; 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Lois Graycheck and Gary Miesel. Visitation will be on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at the Highland Chapel of the Elton Black and Son Funeral Home, 3295 East Highland Rd., Highland, Michigan, 48356. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. (In state at 10:00 a.m.) on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1851 Commerce Road, Milford, Michigan 48381.
