Kumudben Ujamlal Kothari, age 84, of Highland, died Friday, May 29, 2020, at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac. Left to cherish her memory are her four sons: Kiron (Carol) Kothari, Dr. Rashmi (Cathy) Kothari, MD., Rajesh (Christi) Kothari, and Dr. Sandip (Dr. Terri Kothari, MD) Kothari, MD; her twelve grandchildren: Jayshree, Asha, Kiron, Kumar, Anju, Ravi, Sanjay, Priya, Ayesha, Tej, Malina, and Deven; her sister, Bharti Manubhai Jhaveri; and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members in the United States and in India.
Kumudben was born on June 30, 1935, in Bombay, India, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Kusumchand L. and Subhadra Fakirchand (Sarkar) Choski. She and Dr. Ujamlal C. Kothari, MD were married on May 19, 1955, in India. They shared forty-four wonderful years together until Ujamlal’s death on June 24, 1999. In her first few years of motherhood, Kumudben was a loving stay-at-home-mom to her four boys, who were raised in the Pontiac area. As her children grew older, she began working as an administrative assistant at Eastover Elementary School in the Bloomfield Hills district. In her free time, Kumudben loved to cook meals for her family and friends; she took great joy in cooking for people, no matter who they were. She also enjoyed going to the movies with her friends. However, above all else, Kumudben loved to spend time with her family; especially all her grandchildren! She will be greatly missed by many.
Kumudben was preceded in death by her parents, Kusumchand and Subhadra; her husband, Dr. Ujamlal C. Kothari, MD; her granddaughter, Kaitan; her siblings: Indira Sumtichan Jhaveri, Vasumati Sumudrasen Jhaveri, Ramila Fulchand Malji, Nalin Kusumchand Choski, and Jayu Ramesh Jhaver.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that you make a Memorial donation in Kumudben's name to ASPCA.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, laws have been implemented restricting the number of people allowed inside public buildings. With the health and safety of their loved ones in mind, Kumudben’s family has decided to hold a memorial service at a later date. In accordance with Kumudben’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
