Oswald Moore, and his big personality, entered the world on January 19, 1960. With his pants worn high and his shirt firmly tucked into the waistband, he embraced his quirks (like needing to buy everything in pairs or sets) and lived his life out loud. A hard worker in all aspects of his life, but especially in his 32 years as a utility lineman, he always made sure that he gave the very best of himself, generously hoping that those around him could benefit from his efforts and the work that he loved. A loyal friend, he was committed to fighting for what he thought was right for himself and others. Competitive to a fault, he was never one to back down, even during Friday night game nights playing ping pong, cards, Tetris, and other games with the four children he raised and provided for during his 36 years of marriage to his wife, Cheryl. From working on house projects to walking through Cedar Point, he enjoyed spending time with his family that grew over the years to include eight grandchildren.
Being surrounded by people made Oswald the happiest. He always took a genuine interest in what people had to say and made even first time acquaintances feel good about themselves. He loved to talk and never tired of recounting over dinner the many reasons he was completely committed to an organic, healthy diet despite his love of gourmet in his younger days. His appreciation of good quality didn’t end with his meals and he loved heading out to the store to get the latest and greatest. Although he was never more flattered than when people thought he looked younger than what he really was, his greatest accomplishments were his faith as a Jehovah’s Witness and his family, whom he cared for to the best of his ability and pushed forward, playing a key part in who they have become today, even in times of struggle.
After caring faithfully for his wife of 36 years, he followed her in death on June 29, 2021 while working at the job he loved. He is also predeceased by his father, Donald and mother Johnsie Lee. He is survived by his loving family: son Ozzie (Erin) Moore; stepchildren Windy (Gordie) Ostrom, Derek (Elaine Lin) Dunbar, Ginger (Steve) Atherton; grandchildren, Olivia, Everly, Taylor, Bailey, Colin, Landen, Levi, and Grace; brothers, Donald, Edwin, and Anton; and sister, Donna. Memorial visitation will be held Friday, July 9, 2021 from 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 3295 East Highland Road, Highland, Michigan. A memorial service will be held via zoom at 1:00 pm Saturday, July 10, 2021.. Meeting ID: 88423071650 Passcode: 071021. Contributions may be made to the charity of choice in memory of Oswald.
