Robert was a man of great passions and dedication, whose life was marked by a love for adventure and a deep commitment to his family. For many years, Robert found joy in canoeing, a pastime he cherished every Wednesday evening. He shared this love of the water with his beloved wife, Patricia Ann, with whom he enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage. Together, they embarked on numerous canoe trips, making lasting memories on the water. Robert’s devotion extended beyond their shared adventures; he lovingly cared for Patricia through her battle with Alzheimer’s until her passing.
A latecomer to swimming, Robert learned the skill as an adult and recognized its importance, ensuring his children were introduced to swimming lessons from a young age. His belief in the value of learning and safety was evident in every aspect of his life.
Robert had a passion for boats and trains, which he indulged through watching Detroit River cameras to observe the passing barges. His love for these interests also translated into hobbies, as he spent countless hours building model railroads, assembling sets, and painting figurines with meticulous care.
He is survived by his children Karen Duncan and Joanna (Robert) Spohr; grandchildren Keith (Jessica) Duncan, Jessica Duncan, Alyssa (Jake) Kruse, Devin (Cody) Wallace, Nicholas Spohr, Noah Duncan, and Jared Duncan;10 great grandchildren; and sister Sharon Marcotte.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
